Jansel Fuentes

Jansel Fuentes is a proud son of Plainfield, a first-generation college student, and the youngest candidate ever to run for the Plainfield Board of Education. Raised by a single mother who came from Puerto Rico in search of better opportunities, Jansel understands firsthand the power of education to transform lives—and the urgent need to improve the system for every student.

Currently pursuing his college degree while staying deeply engaged in community work, Jansel brings a fresh perspective rooted in lived experience—not politics. He is a passionate advocate for educational equity, youth voice, and ensuring that every student—regardless of background—has access to the tools and opportunities they need to thrive.

Jansel previously served as the Student Commissioner to the Plainfield Board of Education, where he acted as a non-voting member and represented the voices of over 9,000 students. During his time on the Board, he championed improved access to technology, advocated for better resources for both staff and students, and pushed for policies that centered student well-being and success.

His campaign is grounded in the belief that real change starts with real representation. Jansel is focused on transparency, accountability, staff support, and building a school system that reflects the needs of the community it serves.

With the vision of One Board, One Future, Jansel Fuentes is ready to lead with integrity, purpose, and heart.
